Letting Go of the Work

I'm often asked if it is hard to let the paintings go. Sometimes, but mostly not. That's because each one is just a step on the path to where I want to be. You can't take every steppingstone with you. The path you take is also the path you leave behind.

Painting with a Passion

Plein air is not for the faint of heart. You must fend off animals, tourists, bugs, fight the sun and the wind, override your own laziness, and all the while keep focused on what is important, with no guarantee that you will walk away with anything that is worth keeping.

When you paint, you must always be checking yourself, checking your thinking. What DO you think about it? Is it true? Does it move you? Is it coming from within, in response to what is without? Be faithful to the truth of what you see in front of you and you will be led.
